Paleozoic Era (554 MYA- 245 MYA)
Ancient Continents South Of The Equator- Had large sheets of ice closer to the South Pole. Many organisms could not survive during the new climate.
Ice Cap Covers Most of North America- It was the last glacial period, or ice age. This happened 18,000 years ago! It covered 2 miles! And it was a thick layer of snow and ice.
Appalachian Mountains Form- They formed during the ordovician period. It once reached the similar height of the alps. The Euramerica continent smashed into the Godwnaland that pushed up land to make the mountains.
Pangea Forms- Mountains were forming as Pangea moved. When Siberia collided into the Northern part of Euaramerica, Pangea was complete.
Vertebrates Arise- Most complex animal, and it was intelligent. It has a bone with cartilage.
Plants On Land- First land plant was moss. Developed from algae. It was only a few CM tall.
Lungfish- Can breathe on land and on water. They are Fresh water fish. Developed by animals living on sea and land.
Insects- 400 Million years ago. Found in Scotland. They have striking mouths, strong and triangular. Each jaw is just 0.1 mm across. Huge insects.
Amphibians- Earliest amphibian was called the ichtyostega. Found in Greenland. Small and legless (sometimes)
Reptiles- Earliest known reptile is the Hylonumus Lyelli. It has fully adapted to life on land.
